The Monroe Historical Society dedicated an historic marker on Sunday, April 25, at the site of where the first Presbyterian service ever held in the town of Monroe took place off Reynolds Road under an apple tree on April 20, 1783. A month later, May 28, 1783, the framework of the church at Seamamville was raised. The plaque was donated by Joseph M. Dierna, the former president of Orange and Rockland Realty Corporation in Monroe who died Jan. 25, 2020. Paul Ellis-Graham, former president of the Monroe Historical Society and retired social studies teacher at Monroe-Woodbury High School, will detail at the November meeting of the Monroe Historical Society "The Baltimore plot against Abraham Lincoln." It details the threats to Lincoln's life as he traveled by train into the South and explains the steps taken by Lincoln's supporter's to ensure his safe arrival in Washington.
