Central Valley. M-W Crusaders clip the wings of the Burke Eagles in a non-league varsity girls lacrosse game
Crusaders hosted the Eagles of Burke Catholic High School in a non-league varsity girls lacrosse game on Friday, April 4.
The Crusaders entered the game with a 3-0 record after beating Middletown 18-3 in their last game.
The Eagles arrived in Central Valley with a 1-1 record after dropping their last game to FDR 17-1.
In the first quarter the Crusaders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two minutes. By the quarter’s end, the team was ahead 7 goals to 3.
Crusader junior Jocelyn Rostawanik helped the team grab the early lead as she scored two of her four goals in the game in the first quarter.
The Crusaders pulled ahead 15-5 in the second quarter with sophomore Kyra Gilligan lighting up the score board by scoring five of her ten goals in the game.
With eight minutes left in the third quarter the game was briefly stopped to celebrate when Kyra scored her 100th goal of her career as the Crusaders ran off with a 19-5 lead.
The Crusaders defense played another strong game with goalies Alexandra Zeolla and Kyla Piper shutting out the Eagles in the second half.
The Crusaders’ 20-5 victory brings their record to 4-0 on the season. their next game will be on Monday when they travel to Hyde Park to face the FDR Presidents.
