We know how divided we are as a country. Besides the usual separations between Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, we have many issues that keep us apart: Gun control, climate change, civil rights and immigration, to name a few.
But for those of us who would prefer to be more unified, I think there might be some areas where we can agree.
Can we all concur, for example, that it is better to have an administration that is clear and consistent in its goals and priorities?
And isn’t it preferable to have a government that communicates directly with all its citizens through press conferences and briefings, in order to keep them informed about those goals?
It also seems to me, that having cabinet members and department appointees who have experience and expertise in their fields is extremely beneficial when dealing with this very complex world.
And that treating everyone with civility and respect can only help to improve frayed relationships.
It may be that acknowledging these possible commonalities seems too obvious and vague to do any good. But if we’re going to move forward as a united country, we will need to start somewhere.
