On Friday, Aug. 16, I was never more proud to be a resident of Monroe.
The Town and Village closed a few roads but opened their hearts to host thousands of firefighters here to honor one of their own (and our own) - Lt. Brian Sullivan.
Residents parked firefighters' cars on their lawns or driveways and ferried them to the church or the funeral home.
Our firefighters hung a huge American flag over Route 17M at the Mombasha firehouse. Other local VFD companies directed traffic and hosted their fellow firefighters.
May God bless America.
And rest in peace, Lt. Sullivan
