The defense begins
Central Valley. The two-time defending OCIAA Division 1 Champion Monroe-Woodbury Girls Tennis team started the 2019 season with a 5-2 victory over the Cornwall Dragons.
On a beautiful Saturday morning, Aug. 31, the two-time defending OCIAA Division 1 Champion Monroe-Woodbury Girls Tennis team started their 2019 season with a 5-2 victory over the Dragons of Cornwall at home in Central Valley.
Head Coach Christopher Vero enters his seventh season with an impressive 82-8 record that includes five OCIAA Division 1 Titles.
The team appears ready to make a run at another crown again this year.
Maeve Cassidy #1 singles started the day off with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in her match to get the Crusaders rolling.
Crusader Amaya Grant #2 and Marian Welsh #4 singles kept the team going with victories in their matches as well.
The Crusaders finished off the Dragons in the Doubles competition when Alex Sperling and Ava Donagher won their match in #2 Doubles, followed by Emma Cherian and Varsha Jegan’s victory in #3 doubles.
The Crusaders next match will be on Wednesday when they travel to Goshen to face the Gladiators.
