Northern Westchester. Monroe-Woodbury plays Mamaroneck to a standstill in charity match
On Monday, Oct. 11, the Crusaders traveled to Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak to participate in the Section 1 vs. Section 9 Challenge.
The annual event pits top teams from the two sections in a charity event to raise money for Breast Cancer research.
The 20th state-ranked Crusaders entered the game with a 9-2-2 record on the season while the Mamaroneck Tigers came in ranked 12th in the state with a 10-3-1 record.
The two teams did not disappoint and put on a fantastic show of defensive soccer for 80 minutes as they battled to a 0-0 tie.
The tone of the game was set early on when Crusader goalie Parker Giles made a diving save off a Tiger free kick early in the game.
Not to be outdone Tiger goalie Vincent Repoulis also came up with a leaping one-handed save in the second half to keep the Crusaders off the board.
The game was played in both ends of the field as the two evenly matched teams took turns controlling play. The Crusader defense posted its eight shutout of the season as the team prepares to finish off their regular season schedule and get ready for the Section playoffs.
The Crusaders’ 0-0 tie brings their record to 9-2-3 on the season.
Their next game will be on Thursday when they travel to Valley Central to face the Vikings.
