Monroe-Woodbury falls to Kingston 59-39 in boys varsity basketball home opener
The Monroe Woodbury Boys Varsity Basketball team played its home opener on Monday night, Dec. 9, against Kingston High School.
The Crusaders entered the game with a 1-0 record after beaten Valley Central last week while the Tigers came in at 1-0 having defeated Uniondale last Saturday.
The Crusaders got off to one-point lead in the first quarter with Josh Castro scoring six of his 14 points on the night in the opening period.
In the second quarter the Tigers clawed their way back in front, but Dan Quinones' five points helped keep the Crusaders in the game.
The Tigers took control of the game in the third quarter as they pulled away to a 43-28 lead.
In the final quarter, Crusaders tried to mount a comeback and at one point had cut the lead down to single digits behind Pablo Quinones' third three-point shot of the night.
But the Tigers proved to much for the Crusaders on Monday. The Crusaders' 59-39 loss to the Tigers brings their record to 1-1 on the season.
Their next game will be on Friday night, Dec. 13, when they travel to Chester to face the Hambletonians.
