Several children from the Monroe area were named local champions of the 2020 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete at the conference level.
Monroe Council 2079 sponsored the local competition and the Sacred Heart School gymnasium. All youngsters ages 9 to 14 were eligible to participate.
Felicity Gralton and Michael McMahon captured the titles as the girl’s and boy’s 10-year-old champions.
Liam Gralton was crowned the champion of the 12-year-old boy’s division, edging out Liam McMahon by a small margin.
Benjamin Grippo took first place in the 13-year-old boy’s division.
Colin Gralton was victorious in the boy’s 14-year-old division.
There were no participants for the other divisions.
Each contestant was allowed 15 free-throw attempts in the contests.
Each of these winners will compete in the District competition to be held on Feb. 17 with an eye toward moving on to the conference, regional and state levels.
Monroe Council 2079 sponsors this event every January. Look for announcements in the December editions of The Photo News for competition details.
