Crusaders tame Wildcats 8-1

On Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8, the Crusaders hosted the Wildcats of Warwick in a non-league showdown.
The Crusaders entered the game with a 9-1 record, having shutout Cornwall 1-0 last Tuesday.
The Wildcats entered the game with a 10-1-1 record, having lost to Minisink Valley 2-1 last Friday.
The Crusaders took control of the game right from the start and during the first half put the ball into the Wildcats zone and did not let it out.
Five minutes into the game Gabrielle Mpasiakos took a Kayla Bauer corner kick and popped it over the Wildcat goalie into the net.
Three minutes later Kaelyn Salatto slid a pass through the Wildcat defense to Alexis DeLeo, who hammered one in to make the score 2-0.
Next Katherine Mullins fed Salatto during a scramble in front and she hammered the ball through the Wildcat defense to make the score 3-0.
Finally, Salatto fought her way past two defenders and pushed a ball across the crease to Anna Maggi, who tapped it into the empty Wildcat net to make the half time score 4-0.
The Crusaders did not let up and seven minuets into the second half Kayla Harvey led Marissa Key who, with a Wildcat defender all over her, was able to get off a fantastic shot to put the Crusaders up by 5
Kayla Bauer then found Salatto with a well-placed corner kick and the Crusaders scored again.
The Crusaders lead went to seven when Josephine Sorce found Salatto and she hit a laser beam into the Wildcat goal. The Wildcat lone tally came with 4:48 left in the game but the Crusaders were not done.
With 40 seconds left in the game Ashley Santoro crossed the ball to Emily Dovico who scored.
The Crusader 8-1 victory brings their record to 10-1 on the season and they are currently ranked #7 in the state.
