Chester. Crusader bowling returns, but under COVID-19 safety protocols
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, the Monroe-Woodbury Boys and Girls Bowling teams took on the Gladiators of Goshen in a virtual bowling match at the Colonial Lanes in Chester.
In this new area sports participation, all the bowlers had their temperature taken at the door before they were allowed inside and once inside, had to maintain social distance and keep their masks on while frequently using hand sanitizer.
With the new safety protocols in place the two teams no longer bowl head to head on the same lanes but separately and the scores are added up later.
The Crusaders look strong this year with several returning bowlers and are hopeful for another successful season.
When the Crusaders had finished bowling the results of the match were not yet available as they were still awaiting the results from the Goshen team.
As the high School sports teams slowly and carefully restart their programs the sports remain the same but some how seem very different.
Gone are the high fives and hugs that might accompany a strike or the picking up of a key spare. Gone too is the excitement of the head to head competition and the score board watching.
This year’s bowlers must learn to compete against themselves, always pushing to better their score against an invisible opponent.
