On a sunny Monday afternoon, Sept. 27, the Crusaders took on the Vikings of Valley Central on the soccer field at Monroe-Woodbury High School.
The Crusaders entered the game with a 4-2-2 record, having battled Warwick Valley to 1-1 draw on Saturday.
The Vikings came into the game with a 2-7-2 record, having just beaten Newburgh 1-0.
Aaron Deskin got the Crusaders on the board first when he took a pass from Logan Yamamoto, beat his defender and tapped it into the Vikings’ goal.
Just seven minutes latter the Crusaders struck again. This time it was Griffin King who found a streaking Trevor Lagarde, who put the Crusaders up 2-0.
One minute later Mwelwa Tetteh-Nartey lifted a pass in to the box where Lagarde headed it past the stunned Viking goalie.
The Crusaders were now in control of the game. Deskin scored again for the Crusaders before the half, this time off a rebound in front of the net.
The teams went into half time with the Crusaders up 4-0.
The Crusaders added one more goal late in the game when Adam Metwally scored on a scramble for possession after a free kick in front of the Vikings’ net.
The Crusaders’ veteran defense pitched their fourth shutout of the season as the team’s 5-0 victory put their record at 5-2-2 on the season.
