Central Valley. M-W wrestlers Jordan Brown and Marcus Charlot headed to state championships
The Crusaders hosted the Section 9 Division 1 Wrestling Tournament at Monroe-Woodbury High School last Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11.
The first- and second-place finishers at the tournament qualified for the state tournament to be held Feb. 24 and 25 at the MVP Arena in Albany.
The Section 9 Division 1 Tournament featured 10 teams with 208 wrestlers.
The Minisink Valley Warriors, the #1 ranked team in the state, had the highest team score 323.5.
The Crusaders, the #5 ranked team, finished second with 186 points while Middletown came in third with 165 points.
Crusader Jordan Brown captured first place at 138 lbs. After receiving a bye in the first round, Brown pined his next two opponents before defeating Zak Mckernan of Minisink Valley 16-9 for the title.
Crusader Marcus Charlot took second place in the 152 lbs. class. He won his first bout 14-1 and followed that up with recording a fall at 2:35 of his next bout before taking an exciting 4-3 decision to place him in the finals.
Crusader Elijah Brown took third at 110 lbs.
Crusaders Maxim Javorsky (126 lbs.), Mike Rosenblum 145 (lbs.) and Brandon Carcaterra (152 lbs.) all finished in fourth place.
Crusaders Liam Hayes (132 lbs.), Isaiah Grant (160 lbs.) and Cam Dalton (285 lbs.) all finished the tournament in fifth place.
Jordan Brown and Marcus Charlot will represent the Crusaders in the state finals in two weeks in Albany.
