Central Valley. M-W Varsity Girls Soccer team picks up - finally - where last year ended
On a cold Wednesday night, March 10, the Crusaders finally got a chance to start their soccer season.
With masks on and limited attendance allowed the Crusaders hosted the Dragons of Cornwall in a non-league match.
The Crusaders went right to work and 16 minutes into the game Alexis DeLeo lifted a free kick into the goal box where Julia Tycott headed it over the goalie to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.
Just four minutes later they struck again when Colleen Cytryn found Francesca Donovan breaking down the middle and she drilled a shot into the Dragons net to make it 2-0.
The Crusaders pushed their lead to 3-0 when DeLeo hit Donovan with a pass and she buried into the Dragons’ net to end the first half scoring.
Early in the second half the Crusaders closed out the scoring when Anna Maggi got past her defender and lead Tycott with a perfect pass that she directed past the Dragons’ goalie to make it 4-0 Crusaders.
The Crusaders defense was rock solid and goalies Chloe Kensell and Olivia Shippee each came up with big saves to keep the Dragons off the board.
The Crusaders’ 4-0 victory brings their record to 1-0 on the season. Their next game is scheduled for March 16 at Minisink Valley.
