Central Valley. Crusaders defeat Middies three sets to one for first volleyball victory of the year
On Monday, March 15, at Monroe-Woodbury High School, the Crusaders varsity volleyball team took on the Middies of Middletown in a league match.
First year Head Coach Steven Pallogudis and Assistant Coaches Lauren Capul and Jaidin Kilner will have their work cut for them this year as they start the season with a very young team with only two seniors among its players.
The Crusaders entered the game with a 0-1 record on the season, having lost to a strong Pine Bush team in their season opener.
In the first set of the match the Crusaders jumped out to a big lead but the hard-working Middies fought back and tied the Crusaders at 24 and then edged the Crusaders 26-24 to take the opening set.
The young Crusader team then wrestled control of the match and swept the next three sets 25-15, 25-19 and 25-15.
The victory over the Middletown brings the Crusaders’ record to 1-1 on the season.
Their next match is scheduled for Wednesday when they host the Goldbacks of Newburgh in an important league contest.
