Rumshock Veterans Foundation to hold annual gala April 25

USN retired Captain Robert J. “Pete” Petry will be honored during the gala.
On April 25, 2024 the Rumshock Veterans Foundation will hold its Third Annual Gala Cocktail Party at the Osiris Country Club in Walden, NY, from 6 to 9 p.m. when it will honor USN retired Captain Robert J. “Pete” Petry, Orange and Rockland Utilities, and Orange County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Heather Bell.
Petry is the recipient of numerous personal awards for his leadership and impact, including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards). Captain Petry is a native of Haverstraw, NY, enlisting in the navy’s nuclear power program upon graduation from high school in 1970. Orange & Rockland Utilities, which has hired dozens of veterans, will be the corporate honoree. As president and CEO of the Chamber, Bell has advocated for local businesses, helping them to access the resources needed to support veteran organizations throughout the Hudson Valley.
Emily Cole Young will be the Mistress of Ceremonies for this event. She was a former Israel Defense Forces commander and is now a reporter for TV News 12 Hudson Valley.
Rumshock Veterans Foundation works to offer veterans the opportunity to improve their physical, mental, and emotional health as well as reconnect with society through meaningful activities. Upon receiving a grant in 2020 from then-New York State Sen. Jen Metzger for $400,000, Rumshock sought a suitable location to acquire the land for “Rumshock Village,” a community of tiny homes that will be built to serve veterans confronting housing insecurity. Rumshock eventually purchased property in Port Jervis, where it will build a 10-unit village for veterans. The project also recently received $1 million in federal funding, secured by Rep. Pat Ryan.
The money raised by the Foundation at the gala will also be used to begin building the project in Port Jervis.
