New Hampton man faces up to 18 years in child rape case
Goshen. Justin Babb recently pled guilty to “criminal sexual act in the first degree.”

On Thursday, May 23, Justin Babb, 41, of New Hampton pled guilty in Orange County Court to “criminal sexual act in the first degree,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced. At his sentencing hearing, scheduled for August 29, 2024, Hoovler’s office will recommend that Babb be sentenced to 18 years in prison to be followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. As part of the sentence, Babb will also be registered as a sex offender under the New York Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA).
According to Hoovler, during the plea proceedings, Babb admitted that in August 2023 he engaged in “anal sexual conduct with an individual who was less than 11 years old.”
Hoovler thanked the Orange County Child Abuse Investigation Unit for their investigation.
“This defendant’s unspeakable actions demand a lengthy prison sentence,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “It is inconceivable that a child could be subjected to the horrific acts perpetrated by this offender. To be clear, my office, together with our law enforcement partners, will never stop seeking to hold sexual predators accountable for their conduct. We will continue to ensure justice is served in these challenging cases.”
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Julie Mohl.
