Manhattan man pleads guilty in Monroe robbery case
Monroe. The robbery took place in February 2023 at the AT&T store in the village.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Aguibou Karambe, 22, of Manhattan, pled guilty in Orange County Court to attempted robbery in the second degree, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced. According to Hoovler, his team will recommend a sentence of five years in prison to be followed by three years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced on October 16, 2024.
According to Hoovler, on February 28, 2023, Karambe and three other masked men entered the AT&T store in the village of Monroe. While inside, one of the men allegedly grabbed the clerk by the neck and pushed him into the back office. One of the men also allegedly said that he was armed with a gun and held his hand in his jacket pocket. The men allegedly stole various electronics from the store and fled. Law enforcement officials later tracked the men to Mount Vernon in Westchester County where they were allegedly found with the stolen items. At the plea proceedings, Karambe admitted to attempting to forcibly steal property while aided by another.
DA Hoovler thanked the Monroe Police Department for their investigation and the arrest of Karambe. Hoovler also thanked the City of Mount Vernon Police, the New York Police Department and the Westchester County Police for their assistance.
“This brazen robbery was as dangerous as it was ill-conceived,” said Hoovler. “Thankfully, the rapid response of police and their careful investigation ensured that the perpetrators were promptly located and taken into custody. The safety of our communities relies on proactive policing, coupled with the dedication of my office to bring these offenders to justice. I commend the smart and cooperative work of the police agencies involved in this case.”
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Mangold.
