Highland Mills man found guilty on child sex abuse charge
Highland Mills. Under a plea agreement, Eduardo Martinez-Rojas is expected to face 10 years in prison.
On Thursday, January 11, Eduardo Martinez-Rojas, 29, of Highland Mills pled guilty in Orange County Court to “course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoolver announced. Under the plea agreement, Hoovler’s announcement said Martinez-Rojas is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced on April 8.
As part of the sentence, Martinez-Rojas will also be registered as a sex offender under the New York Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA).
Martinez-Rojas reportedly admitted in court that, “over a period of time not less than three months in duration, he did engage in two or more acts of sexual conduct — which included at least one act of sexual intercourse, oral sexual conduct, anal sexual conduct, or aggravated sexual conduct — with a child who was less than 13 years old.”
The DA’s Office also announced the sentencing of Liborio Nieto, 28, of Middletown, who pled guilty on January 11 to rape in the first degree. The DA’s Office recommended a sentence of 10 years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision when Nieto is sentenced on April 2, as well as mandatory registration as a sex offender. In court, Nieto admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse with a child who was less than 13 years old.
DA Hoovler thanked the Orange County Child Abuse Investigation Unit for their investigation and arrest of both defendants.
“The conduct of these two defendants is simply unspeakable,” said Hoovler. “The significant prison sentence expected in these cases is the only adequate response to such behavior. My office, together with our law enforcement partners, will never cease in our pursuit of sexual predators. We will continue to provide support for victims of sexual assault and seek to hold offenders accountable for their actions.”
The Nieto case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Julie Mohl. The Martinez-Rojas case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jessica Dovico.
