CENTRAL VALLEY — The Monroe-Woodbury Middle School Student Council recently spent four days in Washington, D.C., at the annual “Leadership, Experience and Development Conference” (LEAD), which allows students to apply skills, develop character, learn responsible behavior, enhance communication skills, and take part in activities to strengthen their leadership skills.

The “Energize Your Leadership!” conference offered students an opportunity to experience leadership, explore new ideas and exchange concepts and resources with other leaders nationwide and included workshops focusing on leadership, communication, bullying, goal setting, fund raising, diversity and organization.

During their trip, the students and advisors visited several Washington monuments and museums and had the opportunity to witness a vote in the Capitol as it happened. Through the arrangements of U.S. Rep. Nan Hayworth, the students also toured the White House.
