Woodbury Town Justice David Hasin was seriously injured April 30 following a two-car accident in the Town of Blooming Grove.

Hasin suffered numerous broken bones; he is listed as in stable condition at the intensive care unit of Westchester Medical Center.

At about 12:55 p.m. on April 30, Hasin was driving a 2014 Cadillac northbound on Route 208, south of Mountain Road, when his car crashed into a 2014 Infinity driven by Michael Levy, 28.

The cause of the collision has not been determined, Blooming Grove Town Police Chief Carl Schupp said.

State police handled the investigation, Schupp said. State police had no information available on the incident as of Tuesday.

Hasin, 52, was evacuated by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center, Schupp said. He was still being treated in the intensive care unit.

Levy suffered less serious injuries and was transported to Orange Medical Center, Schupp said. He was treated and released.

Town of Woodbury Judge David Levinson said that Hasin had hip replacement surgery, suffered broken ribs and other broken bones.

"It hit us all like a ton of bricks," Levinson said.

Levinson visited him shortly after the accident and said he was in "excruciating pain."

"I wish him a speedy recovery," Levinson said. "He is a good guy."

Levinson said he was "brought to tears" by the accident.

Hasin was running for the Republican Party nomination for the Orange County Family Court judge seat. An Orange County Republican Party convention has been scheduled for May 20.

"Knowing David, he'll get there if he had to be dragged in his bed," Levinson said.

Last year, Hasin ran unsuccessfully in tightly contested Republican, Conservative and Independence Party primary races for Family Court Judge.

Levinson has taken on Hasin's case load, but said the issue is the late evening and early morning arraignment calls.

So far, he has been getting help from other judges in the area who have volunteered to handle some of the arraignments, he said.
