HIGHLAND MILLS — On May 20, several local youth groups combined efforts with American Legion Post 779 to place flags on veterans’ graves at the Cemetery of the Highlands in Highland Mills.

Scouts were given a map, a list of veterans and flags to place in flag holders. Cub Scout Pack 148 and Boy Scout Troop 4 worked together in teams of two or three members to accomplish their assigned tasks.

American Legion Post 779 members treated volunteers to hot dogs and cold drinks after all flags were placed and all youth and adults present enjoyed meeting new people and visiting with friends.

Cub Scouting is for boys in grades 1 through 5 and Boy Scouts is for boys who have reached age 11, have crossed over from Cub Scouts, or are currently in grades 6 through 12. Upon reaching age 18, youth members must register as adult members. Boys can join at any time and will enjoy learning new skills such as first aid, cooking, camping, and hiking, and earning recognition for their accomplishments.

Both Troop 4 Boy Scouts and Pack 148 Cub Scouts are welcoming new members.
