Winslow receives grant for new school bus manufactured in Warwick

WARWICK On Thursday, Feb. 23, Dan Daniels, president of Warwicks Trans Tech Bus, a division of Transportation Collaborative, Inc., presented the keys of a new school bus to John Buckley, vice president of Winslow Therapeutic Centers Board of Directors.
The 14-passenger bus, equipped with special features including a handicapped lift, was purchased through $51,000 grant from the Orange County Office of Community Development.
Many thanks, said Winslows Executive Director Emeritus Virginia C. Mazza-Loomis, to the Warwick Town Board, County Executive Ed Diana and the County Legislature for making this purchase possible.
Mazza-Loomis wrote the grant and also discovered that the company that was to manufacture the bus was located on nearby Lake Station Road in Warwick.
Trans Tech is known for its innovative and fuel-efficient designs. Its latest development is the eTrans, a zero emissions school bus.
Winslow, founded in 1974, is a not for profit Hippotherapy and Therapeutic Riding Center devoted to the special needs population of Orange and surrounding counties. The center, which opened in 1974, is located on 100 acres just off Route 17A in Warwick.
The center will use the bus to pick up groups of students as well as expanding the opportunities for horse show competitions like the Special Olympics. Winslows Leadership Training Participants, sponsored by the Orange County Youth Bureau, will use the bus to travel to mandated training.
