William Brown Jr.
MONROE. William Brown Jr. is running for Town of Monroe Highway Superintendent.
Why are you running for highway superintendent?
In my 21 years of being employed by The Town of Monroe Highway Department, initially hired as a laborer and currently deputy superintendent, I thought it was time. In my eight years of fulfilling deputy duties, I have developed a desire to go above and beyond to provide what our taxpayers deserve.
What are the top three things you plan to accomplish if elected?
Our top three issues in my opinion are as follows:
Our aging infrastructure. Although much has been done over my career, there is still much work to be done. Our town has grown over the past 20 years, therefore our responsibilities have grown. My plan is to prioritize these issues and repair them accordingly.
Equipment. Although our equipment is thoroughly maintained, nothing lasts forever. I would like to implement a 10-year rotation to keep the fleet up-to-date while keeping in mind budgetary constraints so as not to burden the taxpayers. Of course the safety of the general public, not to mention the highway department personnel, is my top priority.
Human resources. The Town of Monroe consists of 47 centerline miles of road that we maintain, as well as seven water districts serving approximately 400 people. We currently have 11 employees, and although they are more than capable of handling their responsibilities, with the considerable growth of our town we should allow additional personnel while remaining fiscally responsible.
What makes you the best candidate for this position?
I am a lifelong resident of Monroe and my heart is here. My wife and I have chosen to raise our four sons in the place I call home, two of which have followed in my footsteps serving our community as volunteer firefighters. I feel I have a thorough knowledge of our roads and infrastructure.
Feel free to add information about your background and qualifications.
With being a Town of Monroe employee for 21 years, I would like to think that I have developed a good rapport with the people of Monroe. I would like to continue my service as your superintendent of highways.
