Warwick Pride Parade 2017 set for June 11

WARWICK — Can’t make it to Washington, D.C., for the Equality March for Unity and Pride, no problem. The fifth annual Warwick OCNY Pride event, celebrating the LGBTQ community, is happening on Sunday, June 11.
The event is sponsored by the Warwick Valley Community Center and the Orange County Youth Bureau and partnering with the Village of Warwick’s Sesquicentennial Committee.
The party starts at noon at the Warwick Valley Community Center located at 11 Hamilton Ave.
Feast on rainbow bagels and coffee, while screen-printing your parade T-shirt. BYO shirt – the more colorful the better.
The parade kicks off from the Community Center at 1:45 p.m. The route is Orchard Street to Railroad Green, South Street to Main Street, arriving back at WVC Center at 2.30 p.m. for pink lemonade and decorate-your-own cupcakes, speakers and a style contest.
There’ll be group and individual prizes for the most stylish and inventive outfits.
LGBTQ advocacy groups will be on-hand to chat.
The theme this year is family. The grand marshall will be Danielle Barbour and family. She was the organizer of the very first OCNY event and the founder and director of Safe Space America, an organization that identifies spaces and business that take a stand against discrimination, bullying and violence of any community member.
This initiative was so successful in Warwick that she has launched it nationally.
You’re welcome to march under your organization’s banner and show your support for the LGBTQ community.
Free and open to all.
