Tuxedo School District students participate in ‘The Hour of Code’

TUXEDO — Students at Tuxedo’s George Grant Mason and George F. Baker High schools recently participated in “The Hour of Code” during Computer Science Education Week, a nationwide initiative designed to introduce students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.

For K-6 students, participation gave them first-time exposure to computer coding.

Older students had an opportunity to see the connection to computer coding in their computer and technology curriculums.

“We live in a world surrounded by technology,” said Jason Schrammel, the district’s K-12 principal. “And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. This is just one example of how we are preparing our students to have the critical skills for 21st century success.”

More than 100 million students worldwide have already participated in “The Hour of Code,” according to Computer Science Education Week and Code.org.
