SUNY Orange Foundation appoints U.S. Marine Corps veteran Anthony Russell student representative

– The SUNY Orange Foundation Board of Directors appointed Anthony Russell, a Marine Corps veteran and resident of Monroe, as the student representative to for the 2018-19 academic year during its Sept. 17 meeting, according to a press release.
According to the release, Russell is currently studying liberal arts with a goal of earning dual degrees in radiologic technology and public health.
Russell graduated from Washingtonville High School and spent four years in the Marine Corps, where he began his service as an infantryman but transitioned to become a small systems operator in the Corps’ Aircraft Wing, the release said.
His service took him to Arizona, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Orleans, Japan and Puerto Rico.
He is a member of the SUNY Orange Honors program, serves on the Honors Advisory Board and is the senior peer mentor in the Honors Program, assisting other mentors and working with his fellow students, according to the release.
Russell received the President’s Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement, and resides in Monroe with his wife and three children where he is also active as a volunteer for numerous organizations within the community, according to the release.
“I am excited to work with Anthony during this academic year,” Dawn Ansbro, executive director of the foundation, said. “He is already a leader on campus and I know he will be a wonderful liaison between the Foundation and the SUNY Orange student community. Through him, I am confident that the Foundation will find new ways to connect and communicate with many more SUNY Orange students.”
