Scouts enjoy lengthy hike along the Long Path
Monroe. A little rain didn’t dampen their spirits.
Every weekend is an opportunity for adventure with the Boy Scouts of America, as Monroe-based Troop 440 can attest. On March 9 and 10, Boy Scout Troop 440 went camping for their monthly camping trip to GNYC Camp Alpine in Alpine, NJ. While on this trip, the scouts and leaders hiked a whopping 11.1 miles along the historic Long Path trail, traversing the top of the cliffs of the Palisades.
Troop 440 began their hike at the Fort Lee Historic Park (Mount Constitution) in Fort Lee, NJ, and continued to Alpine, NJ, to the campsite. Members of Troop 440 reportedly braved the rain and wind to complete the hike, and all while making great time.
According to Committee Chairman Steve Thau, despite heavy rain through Saturday evening and overnight, all had a great time and are already looking forward to the next troop campout in April for the 60th Annual West Point Camporee at Lake Frederick.
Additional trips coming up in the next few weeks include a trip to Gettysburg, Philadelphia, and Valley Forge at the end of March and a 10-mile urban NYC hike in early April. For information on joining Troop 440 in Monroe, email Thau at Troop440MonroeNY@gmail.com.
