Organic bakery joins Hudson Valley Food & Beverage Alliance
NEW WINDSOR Bread Alone Bakery, a local bakery and café with locations in Boiceville, Rhinebeck and Woodstock, has joined the Hudson Valley Food & Beverage Alliance as a founding member.
The bakery, which opened in 1983, has been a Hudson Valley staple for years, known for its organic, whole grain breads baked in a wood-fired oven. Bread Alone has grown significantly over the years, and its breads are now served in cafes and sold at markets across the state, including Albany, the Berkshires and both sides of the Hudson River, as well as New Jersey and Long Island.
We are very pleased to join the Hudson Valley Food & Beverage Alliance, as we feel that this group will make great strides in promoting the variety of outstanding companies in our region in the food and beverage and related industries, said Dan Leader, co-owner of Bread Alone Bakery. Growing Bread Alone in the Hudson Valley has enabled us to have the best of both worlds – proximity to the greatest city in the world, beautiful mountain views and a majestic river valley.
Based in Boiceville, Bread Alone uses organic grains in its hearth-baked breads, and has a strong focus on continuing to bring in grain that is grown closer to home. The bakery purchases its whole wheat from Farmer Ground Flour in Ithaca, and its apples, pumpkins, raspberries, rhubarb, peaches, maple syrup, herbs and onions come from various local farms. In addition, Bread Alones three cafes in the area have become favorite meeting places for people to enjoy coffee, sandwiches, soups, breads, baked goods and more.
The Food & Beverage Alliance focuses on helping food and beverage companies in the region work together as strong partners and market their products all over the United States. Launched by the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp. (HVEDC), the organization includes food businesses, farmers, vegetable growers, beverage makers, distributors and other organizations in the industry.
Essential information In addition to its business locations, Bread Alone has also helped launch the South Africa Whole Grain Bread Project, a nonprofit organization that helps bring the art, science and business of bread baking to rural, impoverished communities in South Africa. The organization is looking to expand its scope globally in the next year. For more information on this project, visit www.SAWGBP.com.
