Orange-Ulster BOCES announces award and scholarship winners

MIDDLETOWN — On Wednesday, June 22, the Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education Center held its annual Student Recognition Ceremony at the SUNY Orange gymnasium in Middletown.
Seven hundred seventy three students were honored for completing their various occupational programs at the Career and Technical Education Center. Three hundred eighty one students who demonstrated a specific competency on an Industrial Standard Assessment were recognized with a Technical Endorsement on their high school diploma.
This distinction is the technical equivalent of graduating with academic honors.
During their two years attending CTE programs, some students earned as many as 20 college credits to jump-start their post-secondary education.
Scholarships totalling $30,325 for outstanding performance and community service was also awarded to students during the evening ceremony.
One of the highlights each year is the recognition of the Outstanding Student Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards. This year, the Outstanding Student Gold Award, CTE's highest honor, was presented to Christian Brown. Christian is a graduate from Pine Bush High School and a Digital Design and Adverting student in the Visual Arts Careers Academy.
Alanah Abrahams from Monroe-Woodbury, a student in the Early Childhood Development Program in the Education Careers Academy, was the Outstanding Student Silver Award winner.
