OC Bike Club, Joe’s Fix It’s and The Bicycle Doctor again remember needy children during the holiday season

GOSHEN — The Orange County Bicycle Club and local bicycle shops again demonstrated their charity work through their annual bike donations to local children in need.
In December, Middletown resident and Club Treasurer Don Karlewicz; Monroe resident and Club President Bill Stelz, and Club Vice President and Goshen resident Peggy Cullen were part of a group presenting bicycles - including helmets and locks - to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County and Northeast Gateway to Freedom.
The equipment was presented to Big Brothers/Big Sisters Executive Director Sharon Williams at Joe Fix Its in Goshen; and Pastor Rosey Andrews at The Bicycle Doctor in Middletown.
At Joe Fix It’s, Goshen resident and owner Brian Dunlevy made all the arrangements and assembled the bikes.
At The Bicycle Doctor in Middletown, Rich Cruet, a longtime club member and store owner, also made all of the arrangements and assembled the bikes.
“The Orange County Bicycle Club is committed to helping those discover the enjoyment and benefits of cycling,” said Stelz. “We’re happy to make these donations so adults and kids who can’t afford to purchase biking equipment can now be part of the healthy cycling experience. We couldn’t do this without Rich (Cruet) and Brian (Dunlevy) and their staff for supporting our efforts.”
The Warwick-based bike club advocates cycling for the physical, mental, social benefits and experience.
“If you haven’t ridden a bike for years, don’t worry,” Stelz added. “You haven’t forgotten how to ride one. Consider the new year as an opportunity to get back on a bike and become physically and mentally healthier.”
More than 250 active members, from beginners to advanced, bike Orange County country roads throughout the year.
