New multi-use trail loop to open in Sterling Forest State Park

TUXEDO PARK — The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and New York State Parks will open of a seven-mile multi-use single-track trail loop at Sterling Forest State Park on Sunday Sept. 30, at 11:30 a.m.
The new 3.5 mile-long Munsee-Eagle along with the Hutchinson/Red Back trails form a seven-mile loop connecting the Caretaker and South Gate Parking lots at the forest.
The trails wind playfully across stone and wooden bridges through valleys and ravines and a multitude of habitats, past glacial erratics and dramatic cliffs, creating a fun, engaging experience.
The Munsee-Eagle is designated for hikers and mountain bikers, while the 3.5 mile Hutchinson/Red Back trail additionally incorporates equestrian use.
These trails are part of the Sterling Forest Trails Plan, to develop, maintain and operate a high-quality diverse trail system, which link to regional trail systems and are maintained through public/private partnerships to provide an integrated, year-round trail system for a diversity of trail users.
The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Caretaker Parking lot on Long Meadow Road in Tuxedo Park.
The ribbon-cutting will be followed by a guided ride, trail run and hike, beginning on the Munsee-Eagle and returning on the Hutchinson trail.
