Mountainville. Patrick Murphy wins Sugar Loaf Mountain Photo Contest
Patrick Murphy of Chester is the winner of the Orange County Land Trust’s Sugar Loaf Mountain Photo Contest.
The Facebook-based photo contest included eight other images selected as finalists by the staff of Straus News.
Murphy’s image, which depicts Sugar Loaf Mountain from Goosepond Mountain State Park, received 132 votes, the majority of the total 577 votes cast on OCLT’s Facebook page.
The contest was held as part of OCLT’s Save the Mountain campaign, which seeks to raise $200,000 in community donations.
This spring, OCLT expects to purchase the 300-acre Sugar Loaf Mountain property, which comprises forest, streams, wetlands and wildlife habitat.
Within three-to-five years of the purchase, OCLT intends on transferring the property to N.Y.S. Parks as an addition to Goosepond Mountain State Park, where it will be accessible to the public for outdoor recreation.
