Despite a rather grim start to the morning the weather held out to provide a truly magical experience for visitors of the Winter Festival in the center of Monroe this past weekend.
The event, which was almost canceled due to rain, was able to be held allowing for local families to come out to enjoy some hot cocoa and cookies, keep warm by the fire, take a hayride around the ponds, admire the gazebo and, of course, meet Santa.
The event which was held between the two ponds had a steady stream of visitors. Little kids excitedly ran up to Santa to give him their wish list before playing in the field across from the gazebo.
As dusk approached, the lights around the island began the illuminate across the ponds, a true sight to be seen.
“We really try to make kids feel special with events like this and feel involved in their community,” Mayor Village Neil S. Dwyer said. “We are so blessed to have what we have here in Monroe.”
