Library’s Feb. 9 family fun event to feature ‘Jackson and Auggie’ authors
MONROE — The Monroe Free Library is holding a special program for families featuring a Highland Mills resident and her sister who are the author and illustrator of “Jackson and Auggie: Adventure in the Hudson Valley,” on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Renee Pearce, who is a gifted/talented teacher at Monroe-Woodbury Middle School and her sister Kaylin Ruffino - a middle school art teacher - will be on hand to read from their book and have copies available for purchase. They are both Monroe natives.
The sisters’ book tells the story of a curious Siamese cat and a mischievous Boxer puppy who wander too far from home one day. As Jackson and Auggie set out on an adventure, they learn all about the historic Hudson Valley.
Pearce and Ruffino wrote the book to be used as a teaching tool focusing on local history and art in addition to entertainment.
During the family event, kids will get to decorate collars, make dog and cat ears, and try gingerbread “dog treats” and “cat food” as well as decorating their own cookies.
