Harriman mayor re-elected
HARRIMAN — Mayor Stephen Welle cruised to re-election Wednesday, garnering twice as many votes as his opponent, Lawrence Mosca.
Welle, who ran on the Village Choice Party line, received 192 votes compared to 95 for Mosca.
Welle was joined in the election sweep by new village trustees Frank Borowski and Colleen Farrell.
Borowski and Farrell will replace Mosca and trustee Christine Sacher on the board.
Borowski, a member of United Monroe, received 190 votes. Farrell, who currently sits on the village's Zoning Board of Appeals, received 195 votes.
United Monroe had publicly endorsed Welle and the Village Choice Party slate.
Sacher received 96 votes and her running mate Jennifer Carrillo received 94 votes.
The race for a second judge was a little closer.
Allan Drian, a resident of Goshen, defeated Harriman resident Mark Wienberg by a vote of 167 to 109.
Drian ran on Welle's Village Choice Party line and pledged to increase the number of court sessions.
Wienberg had run in order to abolish the position since he and his party contended that there was no need for a second judge position in a village of approximately 2,400 residents.
Mosca contended that the new judge position would cost the village more money and was a way to increase fines in the courts.
Welle said the court was overcrowded and that more court dates were needed due to the high amount of traffic.
