Cardinal Timothy Dolan made a pastoral visit to Holy Rosary Parish in Greenwood Lake on Saturday, June 27.
Prior to his coming to the church, Cardinal Dolan paid a visit to possibly the oldest Catholic in the Archdiocese of New York, at age 108, Sophia Bott. The cardinal brought her Holy Communion and gave her a special blessing.
“Sophia, it’s such an honor to meet you,” Dolan said. “You are the oldest person I’ve ever given communion to.”
Sophia replied: “You remind me of my brother. You are my brother.”
And the cardinal responded: “You are my sister.”
Following the well-attended Mass, a reception under a large tent on the front lawn of the church was held during which the cardinal met with all of those who attended.
As a remembrance of the visit to the church, parishioner Mickey Peppers presented the cardinal with a hooded sweatshirt inscribed with his name and Holy Rosary Church, Greenwood Lake, NY.
Parishioners were grateful to Father Augustine Badgley, the administrator at Holy Rosary, and Father Stephen Ries, the cardinal’s secretary, for arranging the visit.
