Four members of Boy Scout Troop 440 awarded the Ad Altare Dei medal by Cardinal Dolan

NEW YORK — Four Boy Scouts from Troop 440 in Monroe - Edward Long, Michael Kearney, Jack Thau and Dominic Wasto - were awarded the Ad Altare Dei medal by Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan at a special Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City on Sunday, April 22.
The Ad Altare Dei is a program developed by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting for Boy Scouts of the Catholic faith. Its purpose is to foster personal and spiritual growth of each scout by encouraging him to actively live out his Catholic faith.
The program entails close to 40 hours of work and study. It was started in 1929 and was the first religious emblem program of any faith officially recognized by the Boy Scouts.
A total of 100 scouts from across the New York Archdiocese completed the Ad Altare Dei program this year.
