Monroe Free Library is hosting a Flag Day Ceremony on Thursday, June 13, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Veterans from American Legion Post 488 will lead the event, which will include the history of Flag Day, a flag retirement ceremony, as well as proper flag etiquette.
“We enjoy teaching the public about how to properly treat the flag. How to show respect,” said Army veteran Marty Currid, “and we feel that the library is the perfect venue for that.”
American Legion Post 488 is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
Song of the Valley will provide live music. Founded in Middletown, Song of the Valley is a Sweet Adelines Chorus. Sweet Adelines International is an organization of more than 20,000 singers, dedicated to preserving the unique sound of a cappella barbershop. Under the direction of Tom Noble, Song of the Valley will perform a number of patriotic songs, including “America the Beautiful,” and “This Is My Country.”
Song of the Valley is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
The event is for all ages and light refreshments will be served. Attendants are encouraged to bring their own seating, as on-site seating may be limited.
