County approves more than $2 million in 2022 community development awards
Goshen. Warwick to receive more than $100,000 for South Street ADA sidewalks; Monroe to get $125,000 for senior center improvements.

Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has announced that eight municipalities have been approved for a total of more than $2 million through the 2022 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“Today’s Community Development Block Grants,” Neuhaus said in the press release detailing the funding, “will help local leaders across the county improve drainage and roads, sewer and water systems and ensure access to public facilities for everyone.”
Added Director of Community Development Nicole Andersen: “From infrastructure upgrades to accessibility, these awards will help communities prepare for the future by building a strong foundation for residents and businesses.”
The 2022 projects are highlighted by an $800,000 award to the City of Middletown to rehabilitate the O&W train station building. The multi-phased project involves the total rehabilitation of the three-story building into programming space for Agri-Business Child Development (ABCD) as well as other uses. Phase 2 of the project will use the HOME funds to develop eight workforce housing units.
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program enables local governments to undertake a variety of projects intended to create suitable living environments and generate economic opportunities principally for people with low to moderate income.
Among the other 2022 Orange County Community Development Block Grant Awards were:
Village of Chester: Infiltration and Inflow Improvements to Sanitary Sewer Mains, $375,000.
Village of Monroe: Forshee Street and Kalvin Terrace Water Main Replacement, $375,000.
Town of Chester: Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center ADA Parking, Sidewalk, and Accessibility Improvements, $125,000.
Village of Warwick: South Street ADA Sidewalks, $108,570.
Town of Warwick: Winslow Therapeutic Riding Program for Adults with Disabilities, $25,000.
Town of Monroe: Senior Center Improvements, $125,000.
