Central Valley: Varsity Girls Soccer team returns to the practice field
On an overcast Monday afternoon, Oct. 26, the back-to-back New York State Champion Varsity Girls Soccer team took the field at Monroe-Woodbury High School for the squad’s second practice of the year.
The Crusaders have been granted permission to conduct off-season workouts that followed strict safety protocols. The team will hopefully participate in a shortened season in early spring.
Head Coach Bill Mpasiakos, now in his fourth year, and Assistant Coach Kate Santoiann, in her third year, put the team through a brisk workout that included a brief scrimmage.
The Crusaders have had an incredible run under Coach Mpasiaikos. His record of 73-6-3 includes four consecutive Section 9 Titles, three regional and two state championships.
For the athletes it was nice to get outside and participate in a school sport after missing their entire fall season due to the ongoing pandemic.
As the team walked off the field after the practice they all appeared to be happy, although it was hard to tell. They all had masks on.
