Central Valley Elementary School fifth-grader Bisma Malik win the sixth annual Women's History Art contest

CENTRAL VALLEY — Assemblyman James Skoufis (D-Woodbury) announced the winner of his sixth annual Women’s History Month art contest, which invited students in grades K-5 throughout the 99th Assembly District to participate.
This year’s winning artist, Central Valley Elementary School fifth-grader Bisma Malik, drew female leaders, calling her art work: “She believed she could, so she did.”
Skoufis recently visited Central Valley Elementary School to personally thank and congratulate Bisma and her classmates for participating in the art contest.
“These students are our future,” said Skoufis. “It’s our job to inspire them and this art contest is a great way for them to have fun while also learning. Students like Bisma and her classmates are going to go on to change the world and positively impact their communities.”
Skoufis announced the contest in January in conjunction with local school districts. Students were asked to create and share their artwork, featuring the lives of inspirational women throughout history.
Bisma, who was presented with an Assembly citation, has her winning artwork featured on this year’s Women’s History Month activity booklet distributed by the assemblyman.
The artwork will also be displayed at Skoufis’ district office until next year’s contest.
“Women’s History Month is a time for us to not only celebrate the women of the past whose persistence broke down barriers," Skoufis said, "but it’s also a chance for us to encourage the next generation to continue the fight for equality, opportunity and respect for all."
