Halloween window painting in Monroe is a fall ritual at Monroe-Woodbury as high school student artists decorate windows at Village of Monroe stores.
The weather was great over Columbus Day weekend as students worked on Friday and then returned on Sunday and Monday to add their special touches to the art. The results are outstanding.
The National Art Honor Society of Monroe-Woodbury High School worked on this project. Elizabeth Pesce is in charge of National Art Honor Society and Art Guild in the high school.
According to Pesce, window painting is a community service project for the National Art Honor Society students and senior art majors. The project is a collaboration with Village of Monroe businesses, Trustee Dorey Houle and the MW Art Department.
"I am not sure how long this has been happening but over 10 years," Pesce said. "It began with the desire to beautify the surrounding areas of our community and to help showcase our talented students.
Students meet after school to submit sketches, practice techniques and collaborate with peers. They prepare for a month before painting on the actual windows.
Some owners give suggestions, desired images or ideas but the students have ultimate control as to what image and theme they would like to include on the window. Many images are inspired by the store and its window size.
This is :a collaboration to help excite the families of Monroe for Halloween and the fall season," Pesce added.
