Mary C. Bonetti

Mary C. Bonetti, a lifelong resident of Central Valley, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 94 years old.

The daughter of Angelina Viscusi and James Crusco, she was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Central Valley.

Mary was the widow of Joseph Bonetti.

She was an avid parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Highland Mills.

Mary graduated from Central Valley School and was an avid basketball and hockey player, roller skater and swimmer.

She was a devoted worker for St. Patrick’s Church and worked on the “300” Club and did campaign work on the addition of St. Patrick’s Church.

She was an active member of Woodbury American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #779 and was its president and vice president for many years.

Mary was a loving model for her family, children, grandchildren, sisters and brothers and all her loving friends. She enjoyed friends to share coffee and dessert at all times with her. She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo nights at her home.

Her greatest pride in life was when she saved a 10-year-old from drowning at the Central Valley Pond.

Then, while in Las Vegas, she was walking on a crowded street to get on a train, when she felt a hand grab her. It was a little boy 5 years old. Mary stayed with him until his very grateful parents were located.

Mary loved having yard sales and going to flea markets. She had many friends join her at her home.

Mary always helped people by taking them to doctors and shopping.

Mary was a dedicated employee as assistant cook and teacher’s assistant for 35 years at Monroe-Woodbury School District.

She loved to travel, made trips to Italy, Spain, Las Vegas, California, Bermuda, Florida and New England states.

She lived in Central Valley all her life. She always showed great love to her six children.

Survivors include her children: Mary Lee Lancaster and her husband Kenneth of Newburgh, Jo-Ann Paden of New Windsor, James Bonetti and his wife Judith of Central Valley, Angelina Broughton of Ocala, Fla., Darlene Fagerstrom of Central Valley and Joseph Bonetti Jr. of Central Valley; her sister Helen Ferreira and her husband John of Central Valley; her 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one great, great, grandchild; and her nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her grandson James Joseph Jr., her sons-in-law: Chief Robert Paden, Raymond Broughton Jr. and Eddie Fagerstrom; her sisters Angelina Rando and Rose Clark; her brothers Joseph and Carl “Sonny” Crusco; her sisters-in-law Sue Crusco and Rosalie “Dolly” Crusco and her brothers-in-law, Fred Clark and Joseph Rando.

A funeral Mass was celebrated July 20 at St. Patrick’s Church in Highland Mills.

Interment followed in St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman.
