Joseph W. Dally Sr.

Joseph W. Dally Sr. of Margate, Fla., and formerly of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, after a short hospitalization. He was 89.

The Son of Joseph W.R. and Madeline R. Relyea Dally, he was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Goshen.

Joseph was the widower of Marilyn K. Drew Dally.

Joseph was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, having piloted a B-24 flying out of Australia. He enlisted on Jan. 5, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 14, 1945. He was decorated by the Federal Government with the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Cluster, the Purple Heart Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with five Battle Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was further presented with the State of New York’s highest decoration, the Conspicuous Service Cross.

He was discharged as a first lieutenant and rose to the rank of caption in the United States Air Force Reserve.

He served the Town of Monroe as both the town and village justice and retired from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed membership in veteran’s organizations, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by two sons: Joseph W. Dally Jr. and his wife Maureen of Perry and Douglas D. Dally and his wife Elaine of Cornwall; his sister Carolyn Newman and her husband Ray of the state of Florida; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Ford R. Dally.

There will be no visitation. A grave side service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11, at Monroe Cemetery on Route 17M in Monroe.
