Christel B. Ecker

Christel B. Ecker died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J. She was 77 and had been a resident of Tuxedo for more than 50 years.

The daughter of Joseph and Ida Brinck, she was born Dec. 25, 1935, in Dortmund, Germany.

Christel grew up in Germany during World War II. She immigrated to Sweden in 1957 and then two years later, she immigrated to the United States.

She met her husband Larry Ecker and married in 1960. They had one daughter, Amrei.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Sept. 1, 1969.

Christel worked as an administrative specialist for IBM in Franklin Lakes, N.J. She loved her home. Her hobbies included gardening, crafts and cooking.

She is survived by her daughter Amrei Ungaro and her son-in-law Lawrence Ungaro of Colorado; her sister Renate Astwood of Florida; and six nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.
A memorial Mass will be offered Friday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 10 Fox Hill Road, Tuxedo Park.

The cremation of Christel has been entrusted to Thomas F. Flynn and the staff of Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., in Monroe.
