Attilio Tondo

Attilio Tondo, a longtime resident of Monroe, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015. He was 76 years old.

Son of Domenico and Arcangela Grammatica Tondo, he was born Nov. 16, 1938, in Corato, Bari, Italy.

Attilio was an usher and member of St. Anastasia Church of Harriman as well as a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church of Monroe. He also was a member of Coratina Club of Long Island.

He was a retired Mason with Local #780 of Manhattan and Local #29 of Rockland.

Attilio was also a professional heavyweight boxer, who fought many times in Madison Square Garden, including knocking-out the boxing debut of weightlifting Olympic Gold Medalist, Paul Anderson (World’s Strongest Man).

Survivors include his loving wife, Grace Tondo, at home; his sons: Angelo Tondo and his wife Pina of Monroe, and Domenick Tondo of Monroe; his daughters: Lena Silk and her husband Robert of Monroe and Pina Maria Tondo of Goshen; his grandchildren: Michael, Jonathan, Petra, Gianna Michele, Victoria and Isabella; his sisters: Carmela Ferrente of Lebanon, Pa., and Anna Sorice of Suffern; and his brother Rudolph Tondo.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 3 at Sacred Heart Church. Entombment followed in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, N.J.
