Arnold David Friedman of Monroe entered into a peaceful rest surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

He was a retired supervisor at Wakefern Food Company in Middletown. “Arnie” was the beloved husband of Theresa Jurik Friedman.

He was born in Middletown, Del. He was adopted by David Friedman and Henrietta Apfel Friedman from Manhattan.

Theresa and he met in high school. He was 17 and she was 15 years old. They got married in 1964.

Not only did he become her husband, but he became a big brother to Stephanie, John, Lillian and Ellen. He was a very important part of their lives as they were growing up. To this day, he is loved and will be missed by all of them.

They were blessed to have had four wonderful children who brought so much joy to them. After raising their own children, the grandchildren arrived. He so enjoyed being part of their lives and watching them grow. He was an outstanding father and grandfather who showed his love not only through his words, but by the selfless and honorable way he lived his life. He was a perfect role model for his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife Theresa of 49 years; sons Christopher and his wife JoAnn of Monroe and Mark and his wife Suzy of Glen Spey; daughters Cindy Schneider and her husband Edward of Monroe and Kelly Paterno and Michael Paterno of Monroe; grandchildren Michael, Gabby, Lexi, Isabella, Mia, Lizzy, Mikey and Chris. He is also survived by nephews and nieces, James McNelis, Emily Haasch, Adam Jurik, Neil Jurik, Jennifer Jurik, Theresa Gallagher and Ronald Washburn.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.
