Two contests supporting music education are underway at Music for Humanity’s website
Sugar Loaf. The deadline to submit an original song is Nov. 19.
Music for Humanity seeks entrants into this year’s songwriting contest.
With registration underway for Music for Humanity’s (MFH) song contest, organizers are asking that anyone with an original song enter it prior to the deadline on Sunday, Nov. 19, at midnight. Production value will not be considered and a phone recording, if clear, is fine. All genres are welcome.
Entry cost is $25 per song and a prize of $1,000 is given for the best song and $500 goes to the runner-up. The winners will be recognized by a panel of three judges on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 16, at Music for Humanity’s free monthly concert at Noble Coffee Roasters in Campbell Hall.
Combined, the contest’s volunteer judges Elly Wininger, Dave Kearney and Barry Adelman have hundreds of songs to their credit. By entering your song, you agree that their decision will be final and without appeal.

Submit a candidate for the Music Teacher Appreciation Award Music for Humanity supports music teachers with an annual award (chosen at random). There’s nothing to buy or do except fill out the form online and stay on the email list. To qualify, a nominee must work full or part time at an accredited school district, college or university.
As donations to MFH increase, so will the annual Music Teacher Appreciation Award. Once you apply, you’ll be eligible each year (provided you still work as a music teacher at an accredited institution).
The winner will be selected Saturday, Nov. 18, at a free musical performance at Noble Coffee Roasters in Campbell Hall. The event will feature singer/songwriters Don Lowe and Montgomery Delaney.
Last year, Goshen Elementary School music teacher Andrew O’Neil was selected as the first recipient of the Music for Humanity Teacher Appreciation Award. That included a $1,000 grant towards musical education.
Note bene
When submitting candidates online at musicforhumanity.org/teacher-appreciation-award, it is vital that one checks off the box granting Music for Humanity the right to contact the HR department at any given institution to confirm each nominee’s employment.
In addition, if you are the winner, you agree to provide a photograph of yourself for Music for Humanity to use when they announce the winner and for future marketing.
