Goshen. No criminal charges for driver suspected in last year’s deadly head-on collision in Woodbury
The driver responsible for killing a Monticello man last year on Route 6 in Woodbury will not face criminal charges, the Orange County District Attorney’s office said earlier this week.
State police allege that on Aug. 15 of last year, Iksong Jin, 62, was killed when a Ford Explorer transporting New Square Grand Rabbi David Twersky collided head-on with Jin’s Nissan X-terra as the Explorer crossed the double yellow line in an attempt to pass a Cadillac.
Twersky’s driver, Chaim Gordon, 24, of Spring Valley, was issued six tickets for reckless driving, speeding and other unsafe driving maneuvers, according to a report by News 12. It was reported that the Explorer carrying Twersky, 81, is thought to have been part of a caravan transporting the religious leader to Rockland County to officiate a wedding.
Jin died at the scene and Gordon and four other male passengers in the Ford Explorer sustained injuries.
“We extend our condolences to the family of the victim in this case,” Ryan Greenbaum, a spokesman for the Orange County District Attorney’s office, told News 12. “Every traffic fatality is tragic, but not every such instance is criminal.”
When asked why Gordon’s alleged actions were not considered criminal, Greenbaum told The Photo News there would be no further comment on the case from the district attorney’s office.
