HIGHLAND MILLS — The Woodbury Historical Society’s annual “Winter Social” will be held this Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Senior Center on Route 105 in Highland Mills (take Route 32 and turn at Mario’s Restaurant). Starting time is 2 p.m.

Members and friends are all invited for an afternoon of fun, refreshments and displays, including special exhibits to kick off the 100th anniversary celebration of Woodbury Historical Society’s Gatehouse Historic Site, which first served as the entrance to a grand estate called “Proctoria” beginning in 1912. It was the home of F.F. Proctor, a well-known theater impresario of the time.

The Gatehouse on Smith Clove Road in Central Valley is all that remains of the estate. It’s restoration and preservation beginning in the 1990’s is one of the most significant achievements in recent Woodbury history – all done with private funds and the dedication of numerous volunteers.

The event is free – and all are invited.
